主讲人简介:

William I. Brustein is Vice Provost for Global Strategies and International Affairs and Professor of Sociology, Political Science, and History at The Ohio State University. His work at Ohio State is dedicated to fully integrating international and multicultural experiences into the academic units within the university and expanding and enhancing its global reach. Since joining Ohio State in 2009, Dr. Brustein has developed a two-pronged approach toward internationalization. The Gateway strategy, which builds on Ohio State’s partnerships abroad, and is supported through the opening of multi-purpose liaison offices in Shanghai, China, Mumbai, India and São Paulo, Brazil; and internationalization of the academic dimensions of Ohio State.

Before coming to Ohio State, he was the Associate Provost for International Affairs and Director of International Programs and Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Brustein has published widely in the areas of political extremism and ethnic/religious/racial prejudice. His most recent book, co-authored with Louisa Roberts, is The Socialism of Fools? Leftist Origins of Modern Anti-Semitism (Cambridge University Press, 2015). His other notable books include, Roots of Hate: Anti-Semitism in Europe Before the Holocaust (Cambridge University Press, 2003); The Logic of Evil: the Social Origins of the Nazi Party, 1925 to 1933 (Yale University Press, 1996); and The Social Origins of Political Regionalism: France, 1848-1981 (University of California Press, 1988).

He currently serves on the Boards of the Midwest Universities Consortium for International Activities, the Columbus Council on World Affairs and Columbus Sister Cities International. Dr. Brustein is the recipient of the 2013 Charles Klasek Award for outstanding service to the field of international education administration by the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA).

Dr. Brustein also has been President of AIEA, Chair of NAFSA’s International Education Leadership Knowledge Community and Chair of the Senior International Officers of the Committee for Institutional Cooperation. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Association for Studies in International Education, the editorial advisory boards of the Journal of Studies in International Education and the International Education Report, and on the executive committee of the Commission on International Programs of the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU). In 2003 he was appointed to the NASULGC’s Task Force on International Education and helped draft the published report entitled A Call to Leadership: The Presidential Role in Internationalizing the University.
