讲座摘要:
We suggest a supply-side perspective of corporate lending networks, predicting that corporations benefit from closure in their lending networks, but to a lesser extent if the organizational environment is characterized by low uncertainty. Our sample comprises a panel of 515 corporations listed on China’s stock exchanges, holding a total of 7,009 major bank loans from 183 distinct banks between 2007 and 2012. Results support the hypothesized positive closure effects, but also show that closure offers fewer advantages if environmental uncertainties are small. These findings are robust to various specifications. More generally, our findings contribute to the relational lending literature, as well as emerging literature on how the interplay between network structures and the organizational environment shapes individual and corporate strategies.
